Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach me at jcbespokeslate@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Yes! Natural stone is incredibly durable and, when properly maintained, can last for generations. Different types of stone require varying levels of care. For example, slate is low-maintenance and resistant to moisture, while marble and quartz may require sealing to prevent staining. I can provide aftercare instructions tailored to the stone you select so that your investment lasts and looks beautiful for years.

Choosing the right slate or stone can seem a little overwhelming, but with a wealth of knowledge in the stone  industry I will be available to assist you throughout your order process. Starting by considering the functionality of the space whether it’s for a kitchen worktop, bathroom vanity unit, or an outdoor patio coping project I can advise which stone would suit your project. Natural stone types, such as slate, granite, marble and quartz, all have different properties in terms of texture, durability, and maintenance. Here at JCBespokeSlate I can help guide you through the options, show you samples, and help you select the perfect slate or stone based on your projects needs and style preferences.

The time it takes to fabricate and install your slate or stone will depend on the complexity of the order and the materials chosen. On average, it takes between 3 to 6 working days  for an order to be fabricated, although this time scale can alter depending on busy periods but you will be frequently updated through out your order process. If your order includes installation then additional time will need to be factored in. If you have a tight deadline, or required a next day service then I will do my best to accommodate this and keep you updated every step of the way.

Absolutely! I specialise in bespoke slate/stone cutting and polishing, which means I can create custom shapes from drawings or templates provided. Whether you need an unusual bar or countertop shape, intricate cuts for your bathroom, or a custom stone feature, I can help bring your design to life no project is too complex.

I offer a variety of finishes for your slate pieces, depending on the style you prefer. Popular profiles include:

  • Straight Sawn Edge: Natural Clean and simple, ideal for modern aesthetics.

  • Pencil Edge: Slight chamfer to edge keeping a more square subtle look.

  • Beveled Edge: A slanted cut for a more traditional or elegant appearance.

  • Bullnose Edge: Rounded edges that add a smooth, polished finish.

  • Custom Edges: I can create custom edging profiles to either match your existing slate or make a unique  bespoke edge to match your needs.

Yes, the two colours that I work with are dark graphite and grey green. In these two colours there are a variety of shades and finishes that differ between each piece. They are sold as natural riven or can be honed/polished to enhance the appearance and textured finish showing the unique pattern styles and layering within the stone.

It is advisable on bespoke slate orders to come and view/pick your own stone, please contact me for an appointment.

The thickness of the slate you choose will depend on your project and preferences. Most popular sizes for sills, wood burner hearths, vanity units and kitchen worktops are 25mm. Other thicknesses are available and range from 10mm, 15mm, 20mm, 30mm and 40mm subject to availability. The thicker slate options are often used for countertops and breakfast bars and if you required any guidance on what the best option for your order would be then I'm here to help.

Yes, I provide a nationwide delivery services for all bespoke slate and stone products.
